Putting the gun in his pocket? Or taking it out? - This posed photograph, circa 1910, shows two policemen arresting a black youth. It was published as a real photo postcard. At the turn of the century, hundreds of derogatory images of African Americans were produced for sale. Stereoviews, postcards, and posters were available throughout the US. Every conceivable subject was posed and photographed. This image was probably made to portray the superiority and efficiency of the police who were protecting the public from armed African Americans.
